LNMU PAT 2024 Notification Released – PhD Admission Test, Eligibility, Dates & Full Details
Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga has released the official notification for the Ph.D. Admission Test (PAT-2024). The university has invited online applications from candidates who wish to enroll in the Ph.D. programme for the upcoming academic cycle. The application process will begin on 26 November 2025, and forms can be submitted through lnmupat.in or via the link provided on the university’s main website. 

According to the notification, candidates holding a Master's degree in the relevant subject with 55% marks or equivalent grade are eligible to apply. Those belonging to reserved categories such as SC, ST, BC, EBC, or Differently-abled groups will receive a 5% relaxation as per the regulations. 

The university has clarified that applicants who fulfill the eligibility criteria by the last date of application are allowed to appear for the test.

Who Does Not Need to Appear for the Entrance Test

LNMU has exempted several categories of candidates from the written examination. This includes individuals who have already qualified UGC-NET, BET, CSIR-NET, GATE, CEED, or those who hold fellowships granted by national agencies like DBT, ICMR, ICAR, DST-INSPIRE, CSIR, ICHR, among others. 

Teaching faculty serving on substantive UGC-pay-scale positions in the university or its constituent colleges, with at least two years of uninterrupted service, are also exempted. Non-teaching staff of LNMU with a minimum of five years of service, along with two published research papers, are eligible for exemption as well.

In addition, candidates who cleared PAT 2021-22 or PAT 2023 won’t have to sit for the test again. However, all exempted candidates are required to submit the online application and will have to appear directly for the interview.

Process of LNMU PAT Exam 2024

PAT-2024 will have two papers, each carrying 100 marks.
Paper 1 - Research Aptitude:
  • A 90-minute objective exam featuring 50 multiple-choice questions based on research aptitude and teaching methodology. Paper 1 Timing 11:00AM to 12:30PM
Paper 2 - Subject Concerned:
A descriptive paper covering the postgraduate syllabus of the concerned subject.
Paper 2 Timing 01:00 PM to 03:30 PM

The structure includes:
  • Very Short Answer: 4q × 5mrk = 20 marks 
  •  Short Answer: 3q × 10mrk = 30 marks 
  •  Long Answer: 2q × 25mrk = 50 marks
Both papers will be held on the same day in two separate sittings. Examination centres will be located within Darbhanga, and the exact venue will be mentioned on the admit card.

  • Vacancies for all subjects – including Commerce, Management, Education, Music, English, Hindi, Maithili, Philosophy, Sanskrit, Urdu, Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology, Economics, History, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, and others – will be announced later by respective departments.

Reservation

LNMU will apply the Government of Bihar reservation roster during admissions. 
Important points:
  • 50% of seats in each subject are reserved for candidates with NET/BET/CSIR-NET/GATE/CEED qualifications. 
  • Remaining 50% will be filled through PAT-2024 merit.
  • If NET-qualified candidates are unavailable, their seats will shift to PAT-qualified candidates as per the roster.

Important Instructions

  • PAT-2024 will follow the Ph.D. ordinance notified by the Chancellor’s Secretariat (Memo No. BSU-05/2010-2684/GS(I)).
  • In case of a tie in the PAT score, PG Marks, and then Date of Birth, will be considered. 
  • The University may revise or update the notice at any time; candidates must check the portal regularly. Failure to submit documents or fees within deadlines will lead to disqualification. 
  • For queries, candidates may contact the Deputy Controller of Examinations (Research), LNMU between 10:30 AM and 4:30 PM.
